Meet us Wednesday!

Are you unemployed and staring at your fifth beef-flavored, high-sodium, Top Ramen meal of the week?  It’s time to get a job and DreamHost will help you!  We need to hire a lot of people – FAST – and we’re hoping that showing up at some local job fairs will help!

We’ll be attending two job fairs within the next two weeks!

This week we’ll be one of several dozen companies at the second annual “We Care Job Fair” to be held at The Olympic Collection in West Los Angeles on November 10 from 9AM to 2PM.

Next week on November 17 from 10:30AM to 2:30PM you’ll be able to find us at the City of Brea’s Community Center and we’ll have the whole place to ourselves! Directions and links are posted below.

Do you like staring at brackets, dollar signs and question marks all day?  Then our coding and development positions may be up your alley.  Want to schmooze, drink champagne and wear a top hat (with requisite monocle)?  Then our marketing and product manager jobs could transform your Top Ramen dinners into Prime Rib!  You can find a full listing of available positions on our jobs page.

Unlike most job fairs, you don’t need to show up in suit and tie.  Just bring your smiling self, a few copies of your resume and anything geeky you think might “wow” us.

mod_pagespeed Now Available!

Yesterday Google announced a new Apache module, mod_pagespeed, whose only purpose is to get websites hosted on Apache web servers to load faster.

On average, Google found that sites that had mod_pagespeed enabled served websites up to 50% faster than their un-endowed brethren.

In short, mod_pagespeed has the potential to make your websites load twice as fast as they did before. And this is just the beginning. The whole project is open-source, so who knows what future enhancements and speed-uppers may be included in the future!

And while Google is still “working with GoDaddy” to roll this out across their entire customer base, today we’re announcing that DreamHost has enabled mod_pagespeed support for all DreamHost customers.

DreamHost Happy Hosting and VPS customers alike can partake in an immediate and nearly effortless speed upgrade with no technical knowledge required!

We’ve made mod_pagespeed an optional setting for every domain that you host with us, but please realize that it’s not enabled by default.

To “turn on” mod_pagespeed on your DreamHost account:

  • Visit the Manage Domains section of your web panel.
  • Locate any domain that’s being “Fully Hosted” in the “Web Hosting” column and click the “Edit” button beneath it.
  • Click the checkbox to enable “Page Speed Optimization“.
  • Click to submit your changes!

Within minutes your sites will be turbo charged and large-and-in-charged.

You’ll need to enable this setting on a per-domain basis. And don’t worry – your existing data is safe and won’t be wiped out when you “flip the switch”!

Give it a try and share your experiences with us in the comments below!

Halloween 2010!

Saturday night we held our annual Halloween party in one of the most unique venues we’ve ever found.

I'm not sure where this plugs in, but I have a few ideas.

This year we held it at The Edison in downtown Los Angeles.

The Edison!

It’s a very unique space with a very cool aesthetic. You should check it out some time if you’re in the area.

The costumes this year were outstanding.

A Tron Lightcycle! With spinning motor and lightwire highlights.

Your wish is granted, long live Jambi.

Gentlemen, you cannot escape the law.

We’ve thrown a few party photos up on our Flickr page, so check ‘em out and imagine yourself partaking of the open bar in a responsible manner and not-at-all suffering the next day.

It could happen…

…if you apply for a job with us!
