We’re giving them all away to twenty lucky entrants in our Apple-A-Day Twitter contest!
We had hoped to have these in our hands on the 3rd when everybody else did. Unfortunately Apple cancelled our first order, probably as a result of us ordering twenty when the stated limit was TWO. The credit card we originally used had also been cancelled thanks to the recent Monoprice fiasco by the time Apple was ready to charge it, so that probably didn’t go over very well either…
The good news is we were able to sneak in another order – and that one went through without a problem – and arrived today!
Bingo!
We unpacked 15 iPads, but the fourth box had a note…
Just kidding. I put that there. But it got your heart rate up a little, right?
So what can you actually do with 20 iPads? Quite a lot, actually!
There’s the obligatory doorstop.
Dominoes came to mind as well…
Playing chess on a touchscreen is like nothing you’ve ever experienced.
20 iPads have no problem giving someone bad news.
iPad/crowbar batting practice was a hit!
I’ve played a lot of bowling apps on my iPhone.
This one makes you feel like you’re really there!
The iPad talks a good game, but when it comes time to play a little Call of Duty, he falls flat.
Trash talking only works when you’re good at something. PUNK.
I’ll be honest – the iPad was much better at playing drums in Rock Band than I was. Had some problems hitting the pedal though.
With the day wearing on I decided that maybe nobody would realize if a few iPads went missing. So I thought it might be a good idea to swallow a few and sneak them out that way.
It wasn’t easy. And it wasn’t successful.

Hi Xkeeper! Onlera did have an entry on March 23rd according to our Twitter-searching robot. However he/she later deleted it for reasons unknown! By that point they were already entered into the contest, and we don’t accept un-entries, so a winner was born!

No fails, and the only time I even said win, was to reply to someone about the contest with “I doubt I’ll win one” and things of that nature. Lameness. Holy carp! I actually found this contest when searching for a new host (whose site I don’t need to use IE for would be a good start), and had Dreamhost in my head from.. somewhere. I’ll be a customer for life the day the mailman shows up and I can sign up on my iPad. Don’t suppose you guys have any Dreamhost stickers I can throw on the back to advertise whenever I use it?

Well I have to admit, I’m a bit gutted at the moment. I had hoped I’d be looking at a shiny new iPad, but it was not to be.
I did spend my afternoon defending @Dreamhost against someone who said this was a scam (which I defended as I am a long time customer and know that although Josh is a bit crazy at times, he’s not absolutely insane to run a scam contest).

Congrats to the winners. I only tweeted the once; since I don’t use Twitter all that often, it seemed to me it would be too much like spamming the few people that do follow me if I tweeted daily on it. Thus, I knew I wouldn’t win, with only one chance in.
(Besides, my plan if I were to have won would have been to give it to a friend who really wants one. I’ve got a real computer and an iPod, I don’t /need/ an iPad. :p)

BTW, guys, I don’t know if it’s just me, but, your survey from the recent DH Newsletter has a problem.
I got to 33% done and the page asks:
“I have….
* A VPS hosting server
* A VPS MySQL server
* A VPS hosting AND MySQL server”
I have none, and the question is required so I can’t proceed further. Was the survey intended only for current VPS customers? Because that wasn’t clear from the newsletter or the survey up to that point.
