And the winners are…

We held a t-shirt design contest not too long ago and the response was overwhelming.

After wading through hundreds of entries we’ve finally narrowed down the winners. We assigned each entry a year representative of its style – one for each year we’ve been in business. Every DreamHost employee was then given a chance to vote for their favorites and the top performers for each decade are as follows:

1940s, Andrea:
1940s
1950s, Ken Grett:
1950s
1960s, Gabriel Mello:
1960s
1970s, Brian:
1970s
1980s, CSEID:
1980s
1990s, Jeffrey Dates:
1990s
2000s, Pushka Ben:
2000s

Every one of these entries has won their creators a lifetime of free hosting from DreamHost!

You can purchase any of these printed on a shirt (or mug…or apron…or mousepad) right now in our online store!

You can also purchase some of our other favorite entries from the contest that didn’t quite make the cut – and there are nearly 60 of them!

Because we were so impressed with all the entries we received, all of the runners-up (designs in the store that aren’t listed above) will be getting a free year of hosting!

We would have liked to announce the winners much sooner, but a lot of them aren’t big on the whole “answer important emails” thing, and it took some time to get everyone’s artwork and legal paperwork collected.

We’re still waiting to hear back from several of the winners, so you won’t be able to purchase everything you see in the store just yet. If YOUR artwork appears in the store with a “NOT FOR SALE” icon, now might be a good time to check your spam filters for the several messages I’ve sent you!

Thanks to everyone who entered the contest! Now…

ENTER THE STORE!

Where can we claim our 1 year of free webhosting? I’d also like to know if we can start it from a date of our choice as I recently have a 1 year plan already therefore it would be useless if I get another free one to start the same time

  7. for3v3rforgott3n Says:

Sorry for the double post, but I never knew you could just grab images off the internet and submit, that’s copyrighted content of someone else…

  9. Tasaio Says:

I’m sorry to point it out, but the Japanese in the final one is misspelled. It should be ドリームホスト, without the long ホ.

  10. Dave Says:

Love the ASCII art design, but $28 (incl ship) for a black T-shirt? Ouch.

  11. Andy B Says:

I particulary like the design for 1972. It would look great either worn casually, at say a barbeque, or indeed formally, at maybe a wedding or awards ceremony…

  12. The Dude Says:

The shirts are probably pricey because they’re printed individually for order. With so many designs it wouldn’t make sense to print, say, 1,000 of each at a time, which is how prices would be driven down. It is a bit pricey, but they’re fairly custom!

  13. Brandon Says:

    Congratulations for the winner!
    but $28 for a black T-shirt..too expensive.. :P

  14. Doug Says:

    @Dreamhost

Any word on the ETA for the PHP upgrade to the current version (v5.3.1)

  15. Steve Says:

You guys are totally KNOWINGLY screwing me out of my referral. For anyone “in charge” over there check out case #30693566 for account stefeu. This is the 17th referral [as I am a web developer] I’ve brought to your company and NOW you’re going to tell me that “oops, our mistake…but we’ll give you a free month of hosting.”

I don’t want your pity $8.95. Obviously, you guys need it more than me. But watch to see if I stay once my renewal comes up. Watch to see if I refer anyone else to your site. Yeah, sure…my potential 10-15 customers per year isn’t much compared to the 600,000 you currently have…but remember all of the little people that helped you guys and stuck it out through all of the BS over the last few years with MANY down server issues, email missing for DAYS/WEEKS, and absolutely ZERO help with this issue.

“You might win some, but you just lost one…”

  16. Ali Says:

    very nice design work

  17. vfx Says:

Why are you not including contact info for the artists?

I’m sure more than one would like to have design work come their way by the fine work you show here.

  18. Chris27 Says:

Absolutely love that 1960’s one! Good work Gabriel.
