Hey GeoCities refugees – We’re here for you.
October 19, 2009 on 7:12 am | In Updates by Brett | 20 CommentsBack in April, Yahoo announced that it would be closing GeoCities “later this year”.
Last week they set a date: October 26, 2009. One week from today!
This is your one-and-only reminder that DreamHost is offering two free years of hosting for GeoCities refugees. When the clock strikes midnight on the 26th, former GeoCities customers will lose access to their old accounts forever, and this offer from DreamHost will disappear for all eternity – buried at the bottom of the sea or melted in a nuclear apocalypse. (We haven’t decided yet.)

Bring us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…hosting.

It’s telling me 1000 refugees have already signed up, so I can’t.

They have a deal where if you go to Yahoo (overpriced) hosting they automatically redirect your links — is that something that’s open for everyone or just if you switch to their service?
If it’s the latter, we should try to raise awareness of that issue because it’s evil.

@ Justin +1… i wonder why there is no reaction about the t-shirt contest? i mean i was always pretty satisfied with customer support and reaction times…but on 12 october brett meant that in a few days the winners will be announced in a new blog post…
as of today the “few days” are 17 days.
im just wondering…
hope that the results will be available soon :-)

a simple “well for reason xyz the results got rescheduled. the winners will be announced on xx.xx.xxxx” would be fine.
i wonder why they dont respond…

We at Dreamyhost think that all the entries were rubbish. We have thrown out all of the entries and canceled the contest. Happy Halloween!
