You're not fooling anybody, beeeeeeeyottch!

Way back in March, one of our sysadmins Terri attended the Australian linux conference to give a talk about sysadminning at DreamHost as well as the open source distributed file system Sage’s been working on called Ceph!

Blah blah blah, on to the IMPORTANT stuff.

Apparently there’s some country or island or state or something next to Australia called “Tasmania”. And just like Australia, they’ve got totally fake animals and plants growing all over. The place is just lousy with them.

HIDEOUS!

ALSO apparently, one of those crazy fauna known as the “Tasmanian Devil” has started getting FACE CANCER and is now totally endangered!

When Linus Torvlads heard about this, he was so ENRAGED he decided to do something about it. In linux-speak, that means he shaved the beard off some nerd.

He also irrationally and temporarily changed the linux logo from tux to “tuz” for kernel release

This had the unintended and unfortunate side-effect of raising awareness for the SAVE THE TASMANIAN DEVIL fund.

Not to be outdone, Terri and another one of our resident nerds, Jeremy, decided to show their RAGE as well; by getting “tuz” tattoos.

Sir, you don't HAVE to be completely naked.

Terri didn't want to see that!

They also forced me to make this blog post about it as well as change the charity that we match donations to to be that same SAVE THE TASMANIAN DEVIL fund.

I said fine, but I’m waiting a couple months so it’s not so topical. And to see if those tattoos really are permanent.

Ah shit Jeremy, he did it backwards!

    Those are the most embarrassing tattoos I have ever seen.

    Really? You thought this was a good idea? Really?

    I shit in a toilet on a pretty regular basis, and those turds go away – never to be seen again. But you don’t see me getting a shit tattoo.

    As an Aussie and Dreamhoster I think this is just both crazy and fantastic at the same time :)

    I’m heading over to make a donation myself and i’m going to spread the word around my workplace so we can can get these ugly mugs saved!

    From another Aussie Dreamhost Customer, I think it is great that you are being part of this and I would encourage everyone to get onboard with this.

    I donate to at least one of the Aussie Animal funds each year, I have even considered becomming a wildlife foster carer, but due to other factors have been unable.

    Tassie Devils are just one of the many unique animals we have here. It would be sad to see them go.

    Tasmania is actually a state of Australia and they get quite “angry” when they get left of the map of Australia. I’m from Queensland so I could not care less what is done with Tasmania.

    I’m a DreamHost customer who lives in Tasmania where these devils are from. I don’t know the person who drew that devil-penguin mascot but I could if I joined my local LUG chapter.

    Anyway, to Derek, my heritage is in Queensland but nonetheless still care about whether my home state of Tasmania is left off the map :p

    The most recent infamous example I can think of was at the 2000 Sydney Olympics opening ceremony, when someone forgot to include Tasmania in a large map of Australia which aired across the world.

    I think they are totally adorable!

    But yes, very angry. Imagine a domestic cat able to literally bite your hand off, with its tail caught it a rat trap – and it blames *you* for the rat trap.

    tassie devils ARE one of the angrier creatures in Australia (only just out-done by the koala bear …. oh yes, you THINK they’re cute and cuddly – hah! http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Drop-Bears/27720689785?ref=ts), and are only cute when they’re babies – like most Tasmanians *jk* – but no creature should be allowed to die out just because it’s ugly and cantankerous …. except maybe Amy Winehouse, cos she’s just *nasty*

    Apparently, that fund uses a .com.au address… it would be more properly charitable to have used a .org.au address instead.
