Once again: let Squirrel Mail stay. The only reason to drop this would be a highly functional system. RoundCube is NOT. So don't waste your time please. Don't listen to all those complainers who want this and that and that - they can use Gmail or whatever mailstuff there is. Cheers.

Josh,
The RoundCube is "Cute", but this does nothing to help us business sites that need REAL functionality such as Calendars, Tasks, Manageable Contacts, and Appointments, etc.

Please PLEASE, PLEASE get ZIMBRA, or Scalix!!!!!

Otherwise, you might as well keep Squirrel Mail...it's FUGLY but basically functional.....who needs "CUTE" but AlSO BASICALLY FUNCTIONAL.....we NEED FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

Really Dreamhost, get with it. Right now I'm using Google Apps which helps but it's still not what our non-profit really needs for collaboration purposes......

Please don't switch Squirrelmail with Roundcube! Use both of them.

The reason is that RC doesn't work very well behind proxy servers, like the one I am forced to suffer through at work. If you switch totally to RC, people like me won't be able to read mail. And that's kind of the point, isn't it?

Just a FYI for everyone, roundcube is now available as a replacement for squirrelmail in the panel. Go to the Mail->Webmail section of the panel to enable it.

A note to you DreamHost PS people asking for additional software... You are able and encouraged to run whatever custom software you would like to use on your private server. We have a few users who have already switched their websites to use alternative http server software, in fact.

We will be adding additional features to the DreamHost PS platform, and some of those listed may be in the list, but as of right now you can already do just about all of what you have requested. What you are asking for is for us to do it all for you, and that's a whole other ball of wax!

@ Paul Kelly - "Why not give @Mail a go guys? @Mail is an extremely well polished webmail client."

That's a pretty "pricey" package! I can see the costs for using that adding up to be a significant amount of money.

Is it just me? I went to peek WebMail and got this:

IMAP Error: Could not connect to mail. at port 143:

No worries; I haven't started using that account yet. But ...

have a great '08!
ben

p.s. I'm not real keen on rats so I'm saying 2008 is "Earth/Brown Mouse" ... symbol of courage, ain't that ironical? Story goes that mouse is brave cuz he's gotta get right up close to know anything, to wiggle his whiskers on whatevuh to get a real feel for what's what.
