600,000 Reasons to Eat Candy!
October 31, 2007 on 2:11 pm | In Business, Funnyish, Updates by Brett |According to webhosting.info we broke the 600,000 domain mark this week!
Just five and a half months after hitting 500,000 and here we are.
That makes us the 14th largest web host in the world…we’d rank even higher if you don’t count domain registrars that don’t offer real hosting.

As you can see, Godaddy/WildWestDomains has been allowed to become far too powerful. We’ll need to take them down a notch.

Thank you to all our customers - old and new - who helped us get here. We couldn’t have done it without you! And we hope we continue to live up to your expectations. We know you’ll let us know if we don’t. :D
Now get out there and party tonight, but be careful. You don’t want to end up like this guy.

The Big 6-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!…
Just weeks after DreamHost could celebrate their 10th anniversary, they can now celebrate another milestone. DreamHost is now hosting more than 600.000 domains according to WebHosting.Info.
They are thereby continuing their explosive growth and are st…

I’m od-ing on the excess candy right now. I’m handing out fistballs to anyone who comes by.
Looking at that list you can take out;
Sedo, fab, buydomains and parked. They’re just parking away the names. You could host those sites on your old 386 sitting in your parents garage.

I made out a nice envelope and letter for you, Brett. =P Here’s hoping I get a keychain before you run out. =D Going to mail it tomorrow, but it might take awhile to get all the way to California. =P

Those top hosts are also known to be pretty shitty so let’s hope you don’t sacrifice quality to match them in size.
(If I was bitchy I’d say “sacrifice more quality”)
Awesome pumpkin men, someone remembered his Calvin and Hobbes I see.

>> “According to webhosting.info we broke the 600,000…”
Why not “according” to Dreamhost themselves?
They way it was worded makes it almost sound like Dreamhost really does NOT have 600,000.
So Dreamhost, how many TLD do you host?
Comment by Tim — November 1, 2007 #
“Why not “according” to Dreamhost themselves?”
You people and the not getting the memos…
Had you paid attention you would know that webhosting.info is the new “Netcraft”, and their authority on such matters is above that of even the hosts themselves.
If Dreamhost would have announced it, nobody would have believed it until webhosting.info confirmed.
I can’t believe I’ve still not added Dreamhost to my Firefox spellchecker’s dictionary… how much longer will I allow those red underlines to persist? Oh well, off to Wal Mart at 3am for toilet paper that I told my wife to pick up on her way home from work today and didn’t.

I can’t believe that the DH team has never talked about the Pumpkin Pranks that Jon Hargrave does on Zug.com each year.

We host over 600,000 domains.
We cite webhosting.info because there’s always some joker who won’t believe anything we say. :)
But, yeah, their figure is pretty accurate.
(technically, we host over that many sites - sub-domains, of which we host many, aren’t counted)

I have had many hosters, and many host newsletters. Yours is the first that I have ever put any effort into reading. You guys are the best!

Awesome. You could say that I am contributing to eNom though. Both of my domains are registered through Namecheap which is a reseller of eNom domains

Why don’t you blog about the class action lawsuit Dreamhost is dealing with since you deprive your employees of lunch and break periods and refuse to pay overtime wages.

Well, if someone named anonymous throws out a random claim with nothing to back it up… it must be true!

dipshitimous says: “Why don’t you blog about the class action lawsuit Dreamhost is dealing with since you deprive your employees of lunch and break periods and refuse to pay overtime wages.”
Why don’t YOU blog about it and cite your sources, then post a link here for us to investigate for ourselves. I doubt very seriously it would require a class action… if Dreamhost’s employees were pissed they strike me as the types that would have an uprising and settle the shit man (or Terri) to man.
Until you back up your claims with evidence, may I offer a tentative FUCK YOU (sorry Lord).

Must be! I know I was sure convinced.

I’m confused, did my 3-game foosball playoff count as a break?

No, but the frequent ArcadePC gaming sessions might be.
The joke is on those who partake, though. At the end of the year we take the highest scorers and put them to death via judicious application of ‘Ted to the head’.
And then someone orders pizza for the survivors.
Such is the life of the tortured, put-upon, horribly mistreated DreamHost employee.
(Indeed, just as in “WarGames” the only way to win is not to play - this is how I’ve survived my sentence here, since 1999… And you all wonder why I cower in my office.)

I couldn’t be less pleased with the service I’ve received from dreamhost in the past 12 months vs. the first 12 months when I signed up in 2000. Being so big seems to have taken a severe toll on how you handle your business and provide service to customers. It’s quite disheartening to experience.

Why doesn’t DH do some work to get webhosting.info to startify the ratings by those who REALLY host websites and those who only park/register? I’d like to do some REAL comparisons. There is nothing more gratifying than a statistic confronted by the truth…
Comment by Mel — November 18, 2007 #
I meant “stratify”.

I did my bit by moving my domain away from “they who shall not be named” over to the light at Dreamhost :)
Thanks for great service over the past year, i’ll definitely be sticking around.
