Shameful Plug
June 5, 2007 on 10:31 am | In Promotions by Josh Jones |I am so ashamed.
And yet flattered.
I SWEAR I didn’t nominate us myself. The blogger’s choice awards ain’t no digg!
And they ain’t no Golden Globes either. These are the top-notch, no-hold-barred, keeps-the-homeless-away, freeekin’ OSCARS of the blog award industry, no doubt! Who cares if they’re run by blogosphere pariahs pay-per-post: working hard to commercialize what used to be all about the art of what I ate today, man.
And with the type of high-class, bourgeoisie, bathtub-filled-with-perrier web hosting and blog-writing establishment we run here, we wouldn’t accept a nomination for anything less.
So please, click both of those beautiful icons above and go through all the registration mambo-jambo (you could use spam.la to fake your email address) to vote for us.
It’d be so great to win because:
- My ego is almost as low as my blood sugar after being on South Beach for a week. If we win, I will eat a spaghetti.
- If we win, YOU will be the kind of person who signed up with a web host and even read their blog before they were famous and sucky.
- The awards (solid diamond) will be given out in Las Vegas on my mom’s (Joan Jones) birthday, and my mom loves her some
Cheetahs.I mean Spamalot.
Then, in September I really hope somebody nominates us for The Weblog Awards and then in January somebody else nominates us for a Bloggie.
Don’t worry, I already submitted us for a BloggY.

An entire spaghetti? Really?
All kidding aside, congrats.
June 5th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Neat. Google blogs exist still? Wow.
No doubt, DH, FTW! [/nerdness]
Congrats, oh awesome and supportive Dream Host company. :D
June 5th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
1) Dreamhost rules.
2) South Beach rules. Josh, if you can stick with it for two months you’ll understand and you won’t want to go back.
3) CI Host sucks.
4) Dreamhost rules.

I couldn’t stay focused long enough to read this post, or the newsletter, because I was too busy thinking about how good carbs taste. :P
June 5th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
I read both this post and the newsletter while eating white bread smothered in butter and toasted over a pile of burning South Beach Diet books.
June 5th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Hey, congrats on winning! Now I did not understand the PPS in your May Newsleterry. Whatever it was, I am showing up to cheer you on to winning! Thanks for hosting my domain for free for one year. Would a new domain count for your ‘promotional’?
June 5th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
a spaghetti? A strand of spaghetti, sure. Perhaps a spaghetto, or a spaghettum, or even a spaghette. Sheesh. I left my daddy to watch you thrash two languages at once?
I *so* did. Congrats, man!
June 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
I always read those newsletters. This time it might pay off. Way to go.
June 5th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Congrats on the nomination! However….
RE: P.P.S. to newsletter
NO FAIR! What about those of us in (soon to be)soggy 32907 -like myself- who can barely make the $ for one year, let alone get TO 90012 to take you up on this? If I COULD get over there, I’d also be going to Gaia Online (who is up the road from you in 95035) and see what THEY when they’re not giving me interesting pixel things. Couldn’t you come up with something that will be just as good for the *rest* of us out instead of *just* the West Coast folk? Please?
…and yes, I know I need to work on my website. Once Mom gets off my back about my room…. *rolls eyes*
June 5th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Wow just had look at the Awards and you are doing good. Hope my vote can add the punch(my server :D) you need.
Best of Luck….you news letter are always funny and good timepass to read.

Lorna, being nominated is not the same as winning :)
Unless what you meant is you KNOW DH is going to win, which they probably wont, unless someone is voting for them, which I’m not cause I already did! It’s not like I’m going to vote again from several different IPs or anything..
…
gotta go..
June 6th, 2007 at 2:19 am
I voted! :)
June 6th, 2007 at 2:21 am

Josh, LOVE the Newsletters! You guys are quite entertaining (or I wouldn’t continue to read all the way to the bottom of the page). Good luck with South Beach………. Spaghetti is gonna taste gooooooooood (cuz even as obsessed as you are with caaaarrrrbs, it sounds like you’re in it to win it)……. & How does one living on the EAST coast win a FREE year of hosting when your game is played on the WEST coast (w/ a given win as you put it)????? Please, oh please, oh please tell me how I might win a FREE year of hosting!…………… Good luck!!!
June 6th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Josh, Eat whatever you want when you are at work and then act all real goody-good when you are at home with your wife! It’s fool-proof.
June 6th, 2007 at 11:55 am
How I can probe my loyalty to win an one year free hosting?
I have voted tet!
June 6th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
> How I can probe my loyalty to win an one year
> free hosting?
There will be no probing on this weblog!
I repeat: There will be no probing on this weblog!

Josh just keep tweaking the scale to make your wife gain a pound every two days. That will probably be the end of that diet.
Then, take her out for a nice Italian dinner… and knock two pounds off the scale when you get home.
The only real downside to this plan is that you’ll both probably be in the 400 pound range within a few months… but it will taste great getting there!
June 7th, 2007 at 5:10 am
Good luck on the game. I can’t reach you to get that free hosting, since I’m in the Southern US. Still good luck, and I hope your team wins.
Thanks for a wonderfully funny blog and newsletter!

Wow, I don’t really feel like voting for you after the whole security breach. Please appoint somebody to abuse the crap out of your panel and whatever other tools you use. I’d say director of security but everyone’s got to be on their game with that. So how about director of internal abuse?
June 7th, 2007 at 9:32 am
You really should be ashamed of such a plug. It would be better if you focused on providing reliable service to your customers.
I have emailed you that I cannot contact you because my support panel will not work. All I get is a spinning icon that says my request is being submitted, but it will NOT submit.
Three times since February I have complained about slow download speeds of media files from my website. You fixed it twice, but it does not stay fixed. Now, apparently, I cannot even contact you to tell you the problem is happening again and my tracerout says I have a good connection to dreamhost.
There is no way (that I can find) to contact support via telephone or even via postal address.
In desperation, I post here.
June 7th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Stop blogging and go get coffee for your security monkeys who are probably working overtime to fix the mess that you have over there. Of course, it’s their mess in the first place…
But really, I’m not sure how long you can hope to hold on to that Corporate Site nomination with security breaches…
(I’m not really a Dreamhost customer; and honestly, I feel very comfortable about that right now…)
June 7th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Haha, good job, and I’ve always admired that Dreamhost has such a lot of information available to clients of its services..I just wish those services were more stable because overall, it’s a pretty good company!
June 7th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
You know, you whiners wouldn’t die if you were to let a single post go without off-topic crying.
Yeah. Dreamhost is the only host in the world that has ever had a security hole. Boo hoo. Must be time to host-hop.
I realize that reality isn’t as exciting as crying and off-topic blog posts, but if you get bored, try a google search for “CPanel exploits” to see what most of Dreamhost’s competitors get to put up with.
Every day there is a server being exploited somewhere. That’s something I believe the technical server guru crowd refers to as “life.”
June 7th, 2007 at 4:32 pm
Some sort of clear statement—anything—regarding the current security clusterfuck would be a big vote of confidence right now. Seeing this lurk at the top of the blog after I’ve had to tear out and restore a dozen sites and am still seeing what looks like foreign logins after a password change: not great.
June 7th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Wow congratualtions.
June 7th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
^ Artorios needs to be deleted.
June 7th, 2007 at 6:03 pm
I think Artorios was using sarcasm. I certainly think it is really bad form to post that plug after having 3500 accounts compromised - thats 3500 bloggers who won’t be nominating dreamhost. I got one of the letters but it doesn’t look like my site was compromised.
June 7th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
The South Beach diet just like all the other fad diets. What you need is EXPLOSIVE EXERCISES WITH CARDIO!!! Try this one on:
On your way up the stairs to your office do 20 explosive body-weight squats, followed by 20 explosive pushups. Then sprint up one flight of stairs. Take a minute to breath. Repeat the process until you are at the level you need to be (and thank God if you are not on the top floor).
Also…
- Lower your fat intake
- Go ahead and eat all the carbs you want in the morning, but reduce your intake at night (and avoid carbohydrates coming from fructose cause those really are “bad” carbs like the BS (*ahem* I mean SB) diet says) when you are trying to lose weight)
- Do at least 30 minutes of cardio at least 4 days a week
- Do about an hour of weight training 3 days a week (unless you already weight lift, in which case just stick with your ordinary schedule)
- Eat OATMEAL!
- If you don’t aready drink it, switch to skim milk
Oh, and yeah, sure, I’ll vote for you.

I meant because he’s a spam bot that stopped by with a random comment to link to a porn site.
June 8th, 2007 at 7:45 am
I want to read the blog on the security issue. I hope it’s a witty and funny one, cos that would piss people off, and then you’d get more publicity!
Can you tell I wasn’t affected by the security breach? I guess I’ve been pretty lucky with the servers I’ve been given! :)
June 8th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I LOVE dreamhost but I feel like anyways complaining, new costumers can have 5 domains for free! while I’ve been with you for some time and I feel 5 free domains free registration would be pretty fair for us older users as well!!!! =)
June 9th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
I’m going to start shutting my sites down. There has been no update from DH in several days about the FTP hack on dreamhoststatus, even though user accounts are still being hacked. This is one occasion where we definitely need to be kept informed and DH is failing to do so. DH you picked the worst possible time to stop communicating.
June 10th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Awww, did I make the little baby cry? Poor thing.
Angry Dog isn’t going to anything but whine like he always does. Big surprise.
June 10th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Wow, more tears. You forgot to throw in a retarded “WOOF” like when you whine on the status site.
June 10th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
WOOF. feel better now?
June 11th, 2007 at 11:47 am
This post is getting more and more shameful every day.
June 12th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
my apologies. WOOF.
June 13th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
I can’t leave feedback, because it would be critical, snide and depressed over lack of quality content. So, instead, I’ll propose that someone create a blog-post editing tool, whereby bloggers could vote previous comments off! Yes! Then we could totally forget about the topic and why we were here in the first place!
June 14th, 2007 at 7:14 am
why apologies ? i don’t understand!
June 14th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
They where “apologizing” for leaving out the ‘woof’ on a previous comment.
Now everyone play nice~
June 14th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
