The Big 5-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
May 15, 2007 on 9:50 am | In Business, Funnyish, Promotions, Updates by Josh Jones | 31 CommentsI refuse to be scooped this time!
We finally passed half a million domains hosted, according to webhosting.info.
Wow, that’s 125,000 domains for every DreamHost-sucks site!

I guess that means it’s about time for The Unofficial DreamHost Blog to give out an iPod Shuffle (now available in springy colors!) to “Matt Skorina”, or if he isn’t contactable, “George”?
Too bad we didn’t announce this yesterday (May 14th), because then it looks like “Kevin Hatfield” would have won. Or maybe “Jessica” .. or “May” (ha, big surprise SHE guessed a day this month!). And then, whomever runs the unofficial blog would have had a fun time since it looks like none of them left any way to be contacted!

Never ones to quit while we’re ahead, let’s see if we can turn 500,000 into 500,500!
With another one of our oh-so-rare promo code moments!
Tell your for-some-reason-still-not-hosted-with-DreamHost friends.. the first 500 people who sign up for any L1 hosting plan with the promo code 555 will get 500GB of storage, 5TB of bandwidth per month, and FIVE free domain registrations for the life of their hosting.. not to mention $50 off!
Now, for those of you already customers.. please don’t get jealous. You’ve probably already got that much anyway thanks to our weekly quota growth policy! As for the free domain registations.. well, come on, who really needs more than one domain anyway?
And, remember, each new customer we get, you get one more person to brag about how you signed up “back when they didn’t suck.”

Good Pricing
Great Hosting. Few outages, but all good for the price.
Feel like I know the people behind dreamhost.
I know why outages happen unlike my old host.
Thanks Good Job For The 1/2 Million Domains.

I am yealous!

Hey, thanks for the link.
You guys have heart and a great sense of humor, I’ll give you that (I Leave DreamHost, DreamHost Leaves Me… (Almost) Speechless). Too bad your service was less than helpful and your uptime spotty.
Maybe things have changed. Hope you make a million.

Wow, that’s a lot of domains.
May 15th, 2007 at 11:05 am
A lot of domains, but… what about latency? It sucks, i have to wait 10 seconds to browse a website.
May 15th, 2007 at 11:11 am
wait, what? did we just scoop the unofficial blog on their own giveaway? Anyhow, my guess was awful close (I guessed next week.)

They may have provided an e-mail address, that is not shown on the web page. :)

I heard that Google is holding off on buying you guys because they’re not sure if they can handle the volume you’re doing. ;-)

Needs updating? ha!
May 15th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Hey I left a way to be contacted! 1 day off too! =)
May 15th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Maybe now you guys can finally get around to *fixing my website* that has been broken for a week?
My guarantee runs out in a couple of weeks and I think your figure is about to 499,999. (Can you live with that?)
May 15th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Your site is currently a page whining about it, saying that support is working with you.
What more did you hope to accomplish with your off-topic complaining?
May 15th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Well, at least it made it a whole 10 comments before someone started crying about something that has nothing to do with the post. I think that’s a record!

Your that there spam-bot’s English am not are very good.

Great achievement, Dreamhost!
However, I must say that getting so much domains hosted says nothing about your reliability or uptime that people (have) complain(ed) about.
I have no real complains about the uptime of the server I’m on although it’s still down now and then. (See http://host-tracker.com/website-uptime-stats/290091/lvuc/ )

DreamHost Now Hosting 500.000+ Domains…
Hurray… DreamHost is now hosting more than 500,000 domains according to WebHosting.Info. With an average of 700 new domains a day since they passed 400,000 it has taken less than 5 months to reach this new milestone.
To celebrate this event Dre…

the promo-code of 555 does not give what it offered anymore (I had a mate sign-up).
it is only 4 domains and 3gb and 3tb. still massive, but yet not what was praised before!
May 16th, 2007 at 8:56 am
Believe me: i love DH!
May 16th, 2007 at 9:15 am
Hey Jez..
I think what you’re referring to is the text that shows up in the signup process when you use that promo code.. it’s talking about ADDITIONAL disk and bw there.. OVER the 200GB and 2TB and 1 free domain that come with L1 normally.
May 16th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Wow… two spammers in a row, and one was stupid enough to spam his Dreamhost promo code on a Dreamhost owned site.
I guess you missed this part on the promo code page:

Lucky Contest Winners…
The winner of the When-Will-DreamHost-Pass-500,000-Domains Contest has now been found.
The other DreamHost Blog started to announce the winners of our contest yesterday, but they jumped the gun and didn’t get the details straight, probably becau…

Is the 500GB thing still available? How do we know when it ends???
May 17th, 2007 at 8:45 am
Are all comment spambots, like Litbook, as stupid as the people that use them?
You’d think that a spammer in any country, regardless of their language, could do enough research to pull of one complete sentence in English… if their main purpose in life is to spam US websites.

I’ve been playing with the idea of moving to a host that supports Ruby on Rails for a while now but thought I’d wait for my other contract to run out. This deal changed my mind on the waiting part, amazing deal guys. I signed up and I can already tell I like you a lot better than my previous host.
May 20th, 2007 at 4:32 pm
Hey, I signed up but they canceled my account because I can’t have two! But I was only going to have one, as soon as I migrated everything from one into the other! That is mean! Josh I want my 5 free domains! =( Is this thing still on?
May 20th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
I guess you missed the bit where it says…
“This offer is for new customers only – those who do not have an active account with DreamHost.”

Mmm.. That’s the sad part of the story hehe, I did not missed it and in fact that was that the support guy told me but… =( What could I do? I still want ‘em.. hehe
May 31st, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Hooray for DreamHost!
I’m so glad that you guys are doing well, perhaps its time to edit the # of domains stated on dreamhosts wiki @http://wiki.dreamhost.com/116_Common_Questions
Maybe the increase in referrals is helping, any official stats on that?

How long is that promo code valid? And is that the cap or does the added space each week still apply?
