Oh, Dreamhost - why are you wasting valuble CPU minutes by offering on-server conversion? Link to FLV conversion software like Media Converter or RIVA instead, so these (assumedly) FFMPEG conversions don't start taking over servers.

I'm a bit distressed that you are trying to pass Jeroen Wijering's media players off as your own fantastic creation (over at media.dreamhost.com). You don't even attribute them according to the terms in his Creative Commons license, or even mention they're under a Creative Commons license!

Anyone can get those two Flash players over at Jeroen's site, jeroenwijering.com - and receive proper support there along with proper upgrades. Dreamhost, this is nothing special. Lame, in fact.

Hey, Hawleywood:
Yes, Dreamhost is the most "interactive" firm or whatever; but they have their downsides and issues, but I won't go into that.... I love these newsletters, they can be uplifitingly funny, while carrying a serious note. But this is not the first time that it has either been hinted or explicitly said that Google will or would buy out Dreamhost. I don't know if they're serious or just joking around. Problem is that Google would not have an issue competing, let alone that Google would most likely end up a monopoly in the hosting business (think about that, they already dominate a large section of most everything else), so buying out Dreamhost would add more debt to their bills. Google would turn into the Wal-Mart of hosting (sadly, GoCrappy may already have other hosts beat).

Please, please can you get a handle on the current state of DreamHost *before* you start seriously considering plans for Google-type world domination?

For four or five *years* I have been a happy and loyal DreamHost customer. I've always been so thrilled by technical support response times, by the inexpensive hosting plans, and by the fact that I never experienced any downtime at all. (I have dozens and dozens of referrals because I've convinced so many other people that DreamHost is the best host on the web.)

But something happened at the start of this Fall. For a few months now it seems like my sites go offline every other day. I haven't gone an entire week since August or September without a mysql failure or a network issue causing at least one (if not *all*) of my sites to go down. What has happened over there? I just don't understand.
