Don’t Forget Dreamhoststatus.com!
September 12, 2006 on 10:53 am | In Updates by Josh Jones | 18 CommentsJust a friendly reminder everybody: dreamhoststatus.com is the more serious, just-the-facts, business-first, updated about all downtime, blog.
In fact, there’s a new post there now all about the current state of the network.
Also, we decided to turn on comments there too from now on, because maybe that was a reason people liked erroneously checking this site for uptime-related things.
In summary, this blog will stay heavily focused on its original purpose.
Stroking Josh’s ego.

“In summary, this blog will stay heavily focused on its original purpose.”
That would sure be nice, though I don’t know how to keep the comments from being infested with disgruntled “ventmeisters” who just can’t get clued to the support ticket, dreamhoststatus.com, pick-the-right-forum-for-your-issue concept. I doubt they will ever “get it” that *they* don’t have the right to dictate the content of this site. sigh…

Try not to be a prick rlparker, nor are there “infested” comments here, nor on dreamhoststatus as you can see, don’t presume, and worse don’t judge other people, there is a reason people vent, just because it’s enough for you to use the support system (when it is online) or dreamhoststatus (when they indeed explain the problems at hand) it doesn’t mean its enough for everyone, especially when we are talking about something as personal as sites being down or with problems and money, you should just worry about yourself, being condescendent is worse than people venting out.
Oh and josh nice to see your starting to communicate more with your clients (with the opening of the comments), also it would be nice to have a more developed forum with dreamhost staff participating whenever possible, well one step at a time ^^

Does that other site really need a separate domain, instead of a logical subdomain? “Stupid unnecessary domain names” are one of my (many) pet peeves on the Web.
September 12th, 2006 at 6:08 pm
@Dan:
The status page is off-site and uses an off-site nameserver, so it cannot use a subdomain of dreamhost.com.
September 12th, 2006 at 6:20 pm
FYI, dreamhoststatus.com still uses the regular dreamhost.com nameservers.
September 12th, 2006 at 11:03 pm
Heh, originally we had it at status.dreamhost.com, and then we were worried what if we let dreamhost.com expire!
We’ve done it before..

And if it makes anyone feel better, status.dreamhost.com still gets you to the right page. ;)

So now our Jabber services aren’t working, and the dreamhoststatus page is timing out…how do I find out what’s going on? My users are in mid-hissy-fit.

stop writing these lame blog posts and spend your time fixing your crappy hosting service. DH is a joke. Think twice before sending them your money. I already made that mistake.

Earlier today, when I was needing to get some work done that required use of the control panel, panel.dreamhost.com was down/unresponsive, dreamhoststatus.com was down/unresponsive, and discussion.dreamhost.com was down/unresponsive. I couldn’t get my work done, and I couldn’t submit a support ticket.
When things are that bad, no one should be surprised when people post here about problems they’re having with the service.

Name-calling doesn’t make you look smart or correct, Mike. Hint, hint.

just popping in again to tell you again how much dreamhost overall has blown this past year. horrible, no excuses or cutesy explanations can justify it. dreamhoststatus is not “more serious” yet, nor will i believe that you will ever cover up the massive boners your machines/staff/God/whatever is pulling on my e-mail and website without throwing in some lame, cuddly attempt at PR. boohoo to me, for not having the time or patience to switch to a new hoster yet. dreamhost is the worst, and congratulations on your “F” grade on the Better Business Bureau.

I would be happy if you start a blog or atleast provide a few post on how to increase / help affiliates of dreamhost (like me). any tips would do. thanks.

Hey Josh and Dreamhost,
I won’t belabor the current difficulties ’cause I’m sure they’re royal pain in your arses.
A comment about dreamhoststatus.com… I did a couple a href links in a comment, it got caught up in the spam filter, and the spam filter error message said to email the blog admin.
Well, there was no dreamhoststatus.com blog admin email provided. Now it won’t let any of my comments through.
Can you or someone email me with…
September 15th, 2006 at 12:13 am
Or better yet, since I just figured out that the president of a multi-million dollar company is unlikely to email his under $10 a month customer, can you just tell them to post the blog admin’s email address on the site or in the error message?

It’s one thing after another with dreamhost lately. Now my site has been ‘throttled’ and rarely loads, instead showing a “Service Temporarily Unavailable” error constantly. Lovely!
