Hey but he(the pres) could write the blog from now on, I suspect is going to be even funnier.

Now, serously, I've been with Dreamhost for a couple of months and, until now the downtime has been minimum.

The control panel is painfully slow, thoug.

It is sad to see that some people complain about DreamHost's services. They are the most dedicated web host team on the Internet. Good grief, even hosts need a break now and then, and even when people do take a break and blog or do whatever else, their is still a bunch of other people at DreamHost working to keep your site up. Remember they host hundreds of thousands of sites, and that is a statement for how good their services are. Every host out there is going to have an error or downtime sometime - computers aren't perfect just like humans.

DH needs a local admin. badly!

with the amount of downtime and network problems DH has they need all of the help they can get. but they sure do find time to blog!

I hate to make that jab but it is true, sadly. anyone who values uptime has to go elsewhere or they are shooting themselves in the foot.

dallas -- this is the last comment I will ever post at the DH blogs, I promise. DH just lost "Strictly Business" customer so there is no need to vent my frustrations anymore.

In a fast paced and sometimes high stress environment like ours, efficient communication between all of us is an absolute necessity and even in this amazing Internet world we live in that still means people working together in the same room at least some of the time (and I prefer as much as possible). We rely on email and jabber very heavily and don't have all that many face to face meetings, but it would be extremely difficult if we HAD to only rely on email and jabber. Sometimes a 10 minute face to face can accomplish something that could literally take a week over email, and explaining a complex system over IM can get very frustrating very quickly.

In the 21st century, there is less need for employees to be located in the same area as the company they work for - particularly if that company is a webhosting company! The "tech support representative" position, for example, could be filled by someone from Timbuktu if necessary. By restricting the job to "locals", you are denying yourselves the talent of folks from outside your locale. Surely, all you need is someone with a broadband connection?
