Lissa Explains it All!

Look at me! I’m standing next to an INTERNET SUPERSTAR.
This is Lissa! She’s one of our oldest customers and she found time during her busy vacation to Los Angeles to stop by our offices today to say hello! Hello Lissa!
Lissa’s got a super-popular site, Lissa Explains it All, and it’s one of the Internet’s most well-known places for beginners learning HTML. She made it when she was just a wee lass, but as you can see she’s no longer wee!

Wow… When I first saw the picture and you said an internet star, I instantly suspected a porn star… Boy could she ever be one. Why can’t I find chicks like that that know HTML out here on the east coast?

lucky you…she’s a cutie!

I remember when I first started learning HTML and what not, I did come across the site, never knew it was hosted by Dreamhost, and ironically I ended up using the same host as the site that I only visited for a couple of seconds. Coincidently, my sites have all failed and her’s has succeed. Jealous? Maybe. Maybe just a little. Maybe only just a little, because someone has brought it up from my repressed memories.
I do help people, but I’ve never made a site devoted to it. You know how many sites there are out there on PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript? I can type in “JavaScript: eval” in Google and hit about six sites describing in detail about the Eval function various ways to use it. 2 of which on a site that charges you for such information (those bastards).
Anyway, it is good that there is at least two people with good hearts. I would pimp out another site where you can get help but it is hosted by another hosting company (that isn’t as good as Dreamhost or I would be with them).
I remember the last time I tried to make a web site to help people learn HTML. Webmonkey, would be a good comparsion, except “Lissa Explains it All!” cuts most of the crap that I completely dispise from both “For dummies…” and Webmonkey.

Brings back good old memories of when I first started coding HTML Around 10 years old on my Powerbook 1400, it was the top of the line laptop then and Adobe actually had a decent product, PageMill :-)
Anyway, here is my old page for giggles >

Then I hosted my webpage on my home connection before moving to DreamHost in March 2000.

OMG HI LISA! Lisa hosts her site on Dreamhost? Cool!

My sites sucked on a whole another level, I remember I once used Frames without tables, that was a lot of fun. Although, I would say that the Lissa Web Help could use a web design update, not to say it is bad, but it is a little busy.

She’s absolutely adorable :) Congratulations on your success, Lissa!

I remember having 100KB of web space, making 15 pages with it, and it getting featured in the Hong Kong Star newspaper. Good old days of compuserve, 923048290348.23492048u239048230948234324800932840928@compuserve.com

Lissa, you got to go in the Data Center? How cool was it? Were there lots of blinky LEDs (that’s the best part of data centers). Did you see any code monkeys in the data center cage?

While it’s nice to see some of Dreamhost’s “super star” sites, it’s unfortunate that Lissa’s site uses Firefox-evading popups. Not cool.
December 21st, 2005 at 11:09 am
i’d hit it.
wait, is she legal?
December 21st, 2005 at 1:13 pm
Pardon the crass comment, but she’s a total hottie.

December 23rd, 2005 at 3:57 pm

December 25th, 2005 at 11:25 pm
So will I, Mwahahahah, soon a swarm of both crazy and pissed off Dreamhost members will lay seige to Dreamhost building and demand to see the little blinking server lights and new features.

now she is some one who really needs to be blogging!
- Stefan Hayden
I talked to her like 2-4 days ago and she said shes thinking about making a blog, I gave her some suggestions for domain names if she starts blogging.
December 28th, 2005 at 9:52 am
haha. I was going to offer to design it for her but I guess that seems a bit pointless.
I’d love to lend a hand if she needs any help.
December 31st, 2005 at 1:25 am
Wow! I learned HTML and Tables (although I hate to admit that I ever knew Tables :P) at Lissa’s site!
It is nice to finally see her at her present age :)! And to know that she’s (almost) a virtual neighbour :D

Man, she looks GREAT for an OLD CUSTOMER. LOL
A note to the newsletter editor: I don’t know where else to put this but I have to admit that lately your newsletters suck. Can’t you just speak plain English and tell your customers what’s going on without having to feel the need to be so clever and hip?
I DID *get* the whole SNL Narnia rap parody theme of the last one…but many of your otherwise corporate custmers might not, and just start to think you guys are whackjobs.
And the last one before Dec. was all in haiku…which is soooo 5 years ago anyway. Just get to the point already and cut out the ego and goofiness. Or maybe offer a different version for bitter, boring, old, stick-in-the-mud people like me.
…just coming from one of your most faithful defenders. I tell people about DH all the time. But ease up, hey? Or I won’t anymore.
Thanks!

Oh and one more thing….fix your blog comments so that hard returns come out properly instead of making us all look like idjits who don’t know how to start a new paragraph!
I have having to type “” all the darn time :(
January 4th, 2006 at 10:05 pm
ok that was a < p > not a set of empty quotes.

I remember Lissa when she first started up Lissa Explains it all. I’m so proud of her for having such a great site – even I’m using it at the moment to get my CSS just right *grin* though I’m usually a hardcore html writer *grin* anyway, great job Lissa, you should be proud of yourself! :)
February 17th, 2006 at 2:29 am
Yo Lissa, you should be VERY proud of what you have done for the internet ;) Congrats and good luck :)
