Hi.. :o) This is my first comment here! Nice Site!!
Uh, that’s a joke, btw. While we’re stripping the world of extraneous greetings…how about nixing emoticons too.

“HELLO!” not to be lame – but I think this rant reflects poorly upon DH’s stellar support team. The entire newsletter-reading populus might see it and think they’re being shit talked.

I believe he is referring to when we’re using Jabber internally to talk to each other. It always strikes me as odd to say “Hi” first, as you always know there is a question looming behind the ominous greeting.

i prefer to get a ‘hi’ or ‘yo’ before the question as it prepares me for someone to say something really dumb. =)
since jabber is instant and does not have the ‘ring ring’ of a phone to prepare the receiver for incoming stupidity an initial greeting is welcome. it also allows the receiver a chance to let you know that they are ready for your question.

Well, not saying ‘hello’ before asking questions seems rather impolite, doesn’t it?
I think it best to include the hello and the question within one bubble. Use Shift + Enter to generate a line break.
BTW, Hello!!

I have 3 major reasons to stay with Dreamhost:
